All ticket and raffle sales from the event will assist Japan in rebuilding after earthquake, tsunami

San Diego, CA, June 13, 2011 – GAM3RS, the hysterical one-man play about role-playing games, work, life and elves, returns to San Diego for a special benefit performance Friday, June 17 at 7 p.m. at the Ansir Innovation Center. Created by San Diegans Brian Bielawski and Walter G. Meyer and starring Bielawski, the show has rocked the New York International Fringe Festival and played at colleges from MIT and ASU to UCSD and USD.

“As soon as the earthquake hit, we knew we wanted to figure out a way to help. When the good folks at Ansir offered a venue, we jumped at it,” Meyer said. “Ansir is a good fit for us,” Bielawski added. “They do cutting edge, technical stuff—the kind of stuff we tend to make fun of in GAM3RS.”

Ansir is an incubator space that boasts numerous game developers and other start-up companies, the founders of which are sure to get the techie jokes in GAM3RS. But even a non-technical audience gets the joke as was proven by the success of the play at such unlikely places as the retirement community of Leisure World. “I like to say some are laughing at the techie-gamers and others are laughing with them,” Meyer said.

The show also serves as a preview to Gam3rCon, which takes place July 19-24th at the 10th Avenue Theatre in downtown San Diego. Coinciding with Comic-Con, Gam3rCon showcases all things gaming, from dice, cards and tabletop games, to the latest innovations in video games. GAM3RS will be featured along with a fan driven adaptation of “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”. There will also be live video game tourneys on a 40 foot screen, demos of the latest in gaming technology, panels and discussions with gaming industry professionals, and parties every night from the theatre rooftop that boast amazing views of the San Diego skyline.

Tickets for the Ansir Japan fundraiser are $20 in advance, available on Ticket Derby or at the door. Larger donations will be welcome at the event. There will also be a chance to buy raffle tickets at the event to win prizes, including free tickets to Gam3rCon and the shows at Gam3rCon. 100% of the box office, donations, and raffle sales will go to the Heartland Coalition, a local charity that has agreed to accept the donations.
